How long would it take to get a business up and running if:

  • There was a power cut?
  • A burglar took off with the server?
  • A fire damaged your server room severly?

It would take hours, days or even weeks to get the systems up and running again?

Then there is the "how much data are we willing to re-enter…?
one hour's, one day's, or even worse one week's worth?

What would it cost in lost sales or lost customers if the people responsible for IT was on leave over this period of time?

Most people back up there data.
Has the restored data been tested and how long would it take?

How reliable is the power source?
Is there a UPS to provide an uninterrupted power supply and does anyone know how long it will last? Has it been tested it to ensure it still works as expected?

      We can:

    • Analyse risk
    • Provide information so budgets can be set
    • Develop a recovery plan
    • Test the recovery procedure

    • Real Case
A certain company had a failure of its air-conditioner in the server room and both its servers overheated overnight. When people arrived at work they had no email, files, business system, contact details, contracts, purchase orders, delivery statements and shipping information. What surprised them was it took 3 working days to procure, install and restore the 2 servers. Half a day was spent trying to decide what to do, what options were available and what should be the budget. They also had a week's data loss because no-one noticed that the backups were not happening.

Ultimately, it's each individual business which decides what risk's it can tolerate but first, it needs to have known about the threat and options available.
