COGITA's Epicor ERP Client, Ludowici, Announces New Acquisition
On 31st December last year, COGITA's Epicor ERP client, Ludowici completed an acquisition of the mining division (JS Mining) of Johnson Screens globally (except Africa).
Ludowici uses Epicor ERP extensively. Tim Quinn, Group IT Manager at Ludowici said, "Epicor ERP has been established as the central ERP system for Ludowici and we have been able to plan a rapid deployment of Epicor to the new businesses with the assistance of Epicor and COGITA. The integration of transactions systems to Epicor is seen as a key milestone in realising the value of the acquisition."
JS Mining is a leading player in the mineral processing consumables market, designing, manufacturing and marketing screening products (stainless steel, polyurethane, rubber and woven wire) and wear liners (chute, SAG, ball and impact mills) throughout Australia, North and South America and India. The new business operates in the same geographic markets as Ludowici and has a complementary product suite and customer base.
Johnson has sites in Newcastle, Mackay, Perth, Virginia USA, Chile and Peru. Ludowici will be migrating most of the acquired sites from their current systems to Epicor ERP before 30th June 2010, with the remaining businesses to be migrated by 31 December 2010.
The acquisition is an excellent strategic fit for Ludowici. The acquisition will enable Ludowici to enter new markets (sand & gravel), sell new but related products (woven wire & rubber screens and wear liners) and improve its product mix (consumable/capital products)
Ludowici's Managing Director and CEO, Patrick Largier said, "Ludowici has established a solid platform for growth over the last few years, rationalising and consolidating its Australian manufacturing operations and businesses and expanding its international presence through predominantly organic means. The acquisition will add significant scale to this platform and transform Ludowici into a global supplier of consumable materials to the mineral processing industry complementing our strong position in the capital equipment market."

The IT Bluffers Guide to Mash UP
So what is a Mash UP - l bet it's got nothing to do with potatoes?
The term Mash UP has several meanings. It is the term for...
When unplugged from ipods our teenagers will tell us that a mashup describes songs that mesh two different styles of music into one song for example, a classic rock song merged with a well-known hip-hop beat.
The term as also been extended to describe videos that have been compiled using different clips from multiple sources.
In web development, a mashup is a Web application that combines data or functionality from two or more sources into a single web page of blocks of information or even other websites clipped into the page.
