Trimax - a COGITA Client - Receives Recognition with an Export Award
Recently, COGITA Client, Trimax Mowers based in Tauranga won the Waiariki Institute of Technology Export Achiever Award 2009 at the BNZ Partners Bay of Plenty Export Awards.
The award is presented to someone who is working within an export company who deserves to be recognised for their outstanding contribution.
Judges said Jim McEwen has been the Trimax product inventor and developer who literally saved the company by driving initial and successive innovations that allows the Trimax product to consistently achieve a 40-60% premium in the highly competitive market of tractor-mounted grass mowers.
Not only does the product continue to evolve to meet consumer needs but it also looks great, which has resulted in growth of 11% compounded over the past 5 years. Jim is a quiet yet passionate achiever who has consistently improved the product offer and supported the global growth and in-market architecture for more than 15 years.
He has provided exceptional and complementary management skills that have provided the platform of a sustainable Trimax market success.
Jim also built his own gyrocopter and flies it regularly - "as you do."

Ausproof wires it all together with COGITA's Facilities Management
Recently AusProof, a well established Australian company providing high quality couplings predominately to the mining industry, signed up for many stress free months with COGITA's Facilities Management. Whilst historically an Australian focused business, AusProof have recently expanded their market to include some overseas projects. AusProof have been successful with their expansion primarily due to the high quality of couplings they manufacture compared to competitor's products. AusProof have some very switched on people, more than capable of contributing to the IT arena, however it makes better business sense to have them focused on AusProof's core business allowing them to gain freedom to get on with the job of running their business, rather than running their IT. And as AusProof's ERP system has been supplied, and is in the process of being implemented, by COGITA, line level users at AusProof have one contact and one support centre for anything systems or IT related. The Facilities Management Agreement takes care of the complete day to day support of their users, maintenance and management of the IT systems they rely on. Support is provided for a fixed monthly fee, no matter what issues or problems crop up. This ensures an organisation focuses on growth and that there are no unexpected, out of budget IT support costs impacting on the financing of other internal projects. The IP and design data of AusProof's unique high voltage connectors contributes to the completive advantage they hold in their industry. It is of significant value for AusProof to have their IT security managed, controlled and audited, rather than left to chance.
COGITA takes this very seriously, and it forms an integral part of the contracted IT services, and of the monthly systems reporting COGITA provides.

The IT Bluffers Guide to Epicor ERP Customisation, Personalisation, Modification and Localisation
What is the difference between these terms? When I hear all four terms being used at once, I am confused about what they actually mean and so what anyway? Customisation means using Epicor Tools to change the layout of the screens and tabs. Epicor provides tools for users so that no source code access is required.
Who can do this? Users who have customise privileges access plus have technical knowledge about fields and tables. Creation of customisations is restricted. The user much personalise a function.
So what's good about them? One extra good thing is that when Epicor 9 software is upgraded then the customisations are carried through with the upgrade. They also can be exported and imported as an XML file. For example the customisation can be set up on a test system and then when proven, exported and then imported to the live system. Customisations can be applied to menu items, so that they apply to all users that use that menu item.
OK, that's good. Now what's a personalisation? A personalisation is essentially a customisation for one user. Customisations are available globally. Personalisations have only a small subset of the capabilities of customisations. Personalisations are restricted just like customisations. Personalisations are a layer on top of customisations.
So, what if the person leaves? Personalisations apply to a specific user. They can be deleted by someone with customisation privileges - usually an administrator.
Now what about modification? Modification is adding functionality to the source code. Epicor and authorised partners can continue to do this without interfering with customisations on successive layers.
Now, finally where does Localisation fit in the picture? Localisation in Epicor 9 is for businesses that operate in multiple countries. There is a separate localisation layer which allows different languages and specialist country add-ons to meet the particular legislative and special local country business needs. It even allows customisations to be in different languages.
